Cake And Concert To Honour Mozart - June 2006

A birthday cake has been baked in Shrewsbury ready for a family classical music concert taking place this weekend.

The cake will be served to the audience at Mr Mozart's Birthday Concert on Saturday lunchtime at The gateway, celebrating the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Children from the Shropshire School of Classical Music - some as young as five years old - will introduce and play a selection of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's best known piano pieces.

Every member of the audience will be treated to a slice of cake and tickets are £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

The one hour concert starts at 1pm and is the first of two family concerts this weekend that form the Shrewsbury Summer Season.

On Sunday at 3pm, the orchestra of the Academy of St.Martin in the Fields will present their Outward Bound show at the Music Hall.

Players will perform a musical journey around the world, including a visit to Dracula's birthplace.

Tickets for the two hour concert, presented in association with Shropshire Music Trust, cost £7.50 for adults and £2.50 for children.

Summer Season director Chris Eldon Lee said:"Ticket prices for both concerts are being kept low.

We're very keen to introduce young people to the fun side of classical music."

Tickets are on sale at the Music Hall on 01743 281281.
